I lost it all in 2023. My home, my belongings, my memories and my job.
On Mother’s Day 2023, I lost my family home of 22 years in a fire. We ran out of the house with only the clothes on our backs just as our home ignited in flames. In fact, my older son ran out with no shoes, no shirt. Two months later, I was laid off from my corporate job on my 16-year Anniversary. I lost everything!
Or did I?...
Although my home was gone, I still had 5 investment properties that were purchased leveraging my home for my home equity line of credit.
If it wasn’t for real estate investing, my story would have been very different.
Was it just luck, or was it the smart move of not procrastinating, knowing tomorrow's uncertain?
drank the Kool-Aid and followed the traditional path of a corporate JOB, believing that if I worked hard and earned a decent salary, I would be able to retire comfortably at 65 years
Despite the toxicity, stress, and lack of work life balance, I had convinced myself that my corporate job equaled security.
I acquired skills in business analysis, project management, process improvement, change management, coaching, facilitation and learning and performance development, and created an excellent brand for myself in my company. I was in the top tier salary band for my role.
But unless I wanted to be in a people management leadership role, there wasn’t much room left for salary growth. I’d hit a ceiling financially, while sacrificing the things I wanted to do in life to get there.
Then reality struck…
When I turned 50 years old, I had the sudden realization that my retirement income would not be able to support a comfortable retirement life that included traveling the world even after working another 15 years until I was 65.
The thought of having to work another 15 years of my corporate job left me exhausted and anxious.
Somewhere in the back of my mind, I’ve always had a goal of “Freedom 55” but that was definitely not achievable in the path that I was following.
If I couldn’t support a comfortable retirement life, then I definitely couldn’t leave an inheritance for my children. Housing costs were exuberant, and inflation continued to increase at a rate no one could keep up with.
The thought that my children would never be able to afford a home of their own kept me up at night.
Since my early 20s, I have ALWAYS had an inner voice that whispered, "Buy a property and rent it out!" I always dismissed that voice with excuses around lack of money and knowledge. Plus, it was totally against the grain!
That voice called again in 2019 and this time, I didn’t ignore it. I joined a real estate investing education organization and began working with a coach. This was the key that transformed knowledge into financial freedom.
With an uncertain retirement looming on the horizon, I jumped into real estate investing, acquiring 6 properties within 2 years. I’ve applied a variety of strategies in my real estate investment portfolio with long term, mid-term and short-term rentals (self-managing property management and short-term rental hosting), co-living rentals, turn-key new build properties, BRRR strategy (Buy Renovate Rent Refinance Repeat), Private Lending, Private Equities, Financial Joint Venture partnership, and Managing Joint Venture partnership.
The Full-time Real Estate Investor Call
In August 2023, two months after losing our family home, all of our memories and belongings in a fire, the “secure corporate job” was no more.
I was laid off!!!
When I first heard the news, I was upset and just as quickly in the same conversation, I was elated. I realized that when it came to my career, this was exactly what I wanted. I had manifested it. I already had a plan in place to make my real estate investing business a full-time gig. .
I would use my knowledge, skills, experience and expert team to help everyday individuals invest passively in real estate paving their way to financial freedom. My team and I would do all the work to provide my financial investing partners with secured investments and the best returns.

I love change. I’ve lived on three continents and four countries so far in my lifetime. My biggest fear is staying stagnant, not learning and growing.
